Longleat 2007
Perhaps because of the proximity of the 40th anniversary celebration at the Imp Club National Weekend in August, there was a slightly subdued Davrian attendance at Longleat this year. Five cars competed for the ‘NDR Handicap Challenge’ and it was good to see the return to the fray of Ken Banks and Mark Ibbotson. The award was eventually won by Steve Alecock who, with a time of 44.09 seconds, improved on his previous best time at the event by 0.62 seconds. Steve also took 2nd in the ‘Up to 1400cc modified production’ class
An additional two Davrians (the Mk1 of Robert Harrison and the mini-powered Mk8 of Robin Cheeseman) joined us for the lunchtime lineup.
Despite some tactical voting in an attempt to open up an opportunity for other owners to win ‘The Adrian Evans’ Memorial Cup’ for ‘Best Davrian’, the award was won for the fourth time by Graham Cashmore, although it wasn’t made easy for him, three cars tying for the prize and the final result being determined by a draw.
As ever, thanks to all at the Woolbridge Motor Club for allowing the New Davrian Register to hold their annual get-together at the Longleat Hillclimb.
Unfortunately, both Neville Cheeseman, who had brought his Mk7 out of retirement for the first time since 2004, and Mark Chater suffered a variety of problems with their cars,: Mark was forced to retire his Mk7a immediately following practice, but Neville soldered on making steady improvements to the running of his ex-Pat Longhurst Car, although he was never able to find his legendary pace.
During the lunchtime line-up, Graham Cashmore won the Adrian Evans Memorial Cup for ‘Best Davrian’ (for the third time)and John Rawlins received the runner-up award for ‘Best NDR Car’.
